Following the successful launch of the Russian Art Fair in 2009, the Fair has been expanded for 2010 and has moved to a larger, permanent venue. The Fair will run from 9-12 June 2010 in the sumptuous ballroom complex of the Park Lane Hotel in the heart of Mayfair. The timing will take advantage of the huge additional influx of art buyers into London for the Russian sales at Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Bonhams and MacDougall’s the same week.
There will be a Royal Preview Evening on the 9th June (when the winners of the Eastern Art Prizes will be announced) and a Charity Gala Evening on the 11th June in aid of the Children’s Burns Trust.
THE EASTERN, ASIAN & ORIENTAL ART FAIR
New for 2010 - and an integral part of the Russian Art Fair - will be The Eastern & Oriental Art Fair. Reflecting the latest enthusiasm in London for art from the former Persia, India, China, Korea and Vietnam, specialist galleries will show a stunning mix of traditional and modern fine art from Asia and the Middle East. Contemporary paintings will hang alongside perennially-popular items such as Chinese and Japanese ceramics, lacquer objets d’art, metalwork, furniture, sculpture, paintings and woodblock prints.
In recent years, Chinese art has soared in popularity and value - boosted by the country’s soaring economy. Art from the Middle East and Asia is now emerging in a similar fashion, fuelled by major sales of Asian, Arab, Iranian and Indian fine art at the major auction houses. There is a real dynamism in this sector, with young Eastern and Asian artists emerging onto the international stage. In London, exhibitions of Korean and Vietnamese art hang alongside the traditional offerings from Japan. Charles Saatchi has recently showcased a major exhibition of Middle-Eastern art and is seeking to open a gallery in the United Arab Emirates. Indian art is as popular as ever, with prices rising as the Indian economy grows and Japanese art is showing a resurgence following a dip in this market over recent years.
EASTERN ART PRIZES ANNOUNCED
The Russian, Eastern & Oriental Fine Art Fair is pleased to announce major art prizes in 2010 for artists from Russia, Asia and the Middle East:
The Annya Sand Prize - to be awarded to the best emerging artist from the former Soviet Union.
The Salon Contemporary Prize - to be awarded to the best emerging artist from Asia.
The Eastern Art Prize - to be awarded to the best emerging artist from the Middle East.
Galleries and individual artists from across the world will be invited to submit entries. A panel of judges will select the 30 best works (10 from each category), which will be on display in a dedicated room within the Fair.
The final judging will be a combination of panel experts, press and public on-line voting. The winners will each be offered a solo exhibition in a prestigious London gallery, together with a cash prize and PR package to help launch their London career.
