Sponsorship Information

There are countless Russian millionaires living in London - including over 1,000 multi-millionaires - most of whom are collecting Russian art. There are also over 60 billionaires living in Russia. The Russian economy, fueled by growing oil prices, has been rising steadily by seven per cent a year since 2000. In addition to buying traditional and contemporary art, Russians are also buying vintage jewellery and antiques.

• Russian consumers were the second highest spenders in London in 2008.
• The average amount spent by Russian consumers was up 73% in 2008.
• 40% of all London properties over £10,000,000 are bought by Russian buyers.

The last decade has seen meteoric growth in the Russian, Indian, Chinese and Asian art markets. Annual appreciation of Russian art has been 30 to 45% - and over 200% in some cases. In November 2009, Sotheby’s staged its first autumn sale of Russian art in New York and it proved resoundingly successful, heralding a return of confidence in this market. Middle Eastern art is also one of the fastest growing sectors in London, attracting a wealth of new collectors. As the world’s art markets emerge from recession, strong sales of Russian, Middle Eastern and Asian fine art have taken place in 2009, confirming the enduring solidity of these markets to collectors. In London, such is the appeal and growth of the Asian art market, that The Art Market Monitor stated this year that ‘The Capital of China is London’.

The Chinese art boom has seen the country move to third place in the world’s art markets, behind the UK and USA. 36 Chinese artists featured in the Artprice index for the top 100 Contemporary artists in 2007. London is the centre of Chinese fine art, with approximately 30 specialist dealers - more than the whole of Europe and America combined. Meanwhile, Japanese art is now seen as an excellent investment, following the dip in performance some years ago.

The Russian, Eastern & Oriental Fine Art Fair has been established to take advantage of the stellar rise in these markets and is a superb opportunity for a sponsor to attract wealthy Russian, Arab, Indian, Chinese and Japanese clientele, both living in London and visiting from abroad. Naturally, this market is also attracting numerous Western collectors in the UK and the United States.
